Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020 #BeCyberSmart
The theme for Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020 is ‘Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart’.
During October 2020, individuals and organisations should all do their part to step up their cyber defence. The Cyber Security Awareness Month website explains that “if everyone does their part – implementing stronger security practices, raising community awareness, educating vulnerable audiences or training employees – our interconnected world will be safer and more resilient for everyone.”
Although this event is hosted by the United States’ National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the messages and intent are just as relevant to us here in New Zealand. In fact, the third week is about internet-connected devices in healthcare and falls on the same week as CERT NZ’s Cyber Smart Week 2020 (19 – 23 October 2020).
The NCSA will provide weekly content during Cyber Security Awareness Month:
- Week of October 5 (week 1): If You Connect It, Protect It.
- Week of October 12 (week 2): Securing Devices at Home and Work.
- Week of October 19 (week 3): Securing Internet-Connected Devices in Healthcare.
- Week of October 26 (Week 4): The Future of Connected Devices.
It is incredibly important to take time to think about how you’re going to step up your cyber defence – as an individual and as an organisation. If you need some inspiration or motivation, start on the Patients First website, where we have provided useful information and guidance about cybersecurity.
