Patient Portal Business Models
Patients First recently presented to the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice 2015 conference on work that they have completed with Sapere and the National Health IT Board. Below is a summary of their presentation and slides and summary notes are included in the side-panel.
Running general practice is a balance between providing clinical health services and running a small to medium size business. How patient portals impact general practice as a business is an important consideration. There are many decisions to make outside of a purely clinical sphere including charges, effects on co-payment revenue, effects on workloads for doctors, nurses and reception staff and who the portal should be offered to. Sapere Research Group recently provided some detailed modelling working with Patients First and the National Health IT Board to help practices to consider these issues and to begin to remove some of the uncertainty associated with business decisions about implementing patient portals. In this session we’ll look at providing an overview and primer of how to use these model resources and give you information on where to find more detailed information.
